On Tuesday December 1 CyArk will be participating in #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. Please consider supporting CyArk through a donation
in support of Project Anqa
, a joint venture between CyArk and ICOMOS
, to help digitally preserve and share at-risk heritage in the Middle East with current and future generations.
We are losing our heritage at an alarming rate. In 2015 we have seen an unprecedented rise in the purposeful destruction of heritage. The historically rich of places of Mosul and Palmyra have become focal points in the senseless destruction of lives and culture. These increasingly horrifying acts attempt to remove cultural and global stories from human memory through the destruction of physical heritage.
We have the technology to digitally preserve these sites and share them widely with the world. We must prioritize the sites at highest risk before they too are lost. Project Anqa is working to rapidly document sites on the fringes of active conflict zones through the use of expert teams and the training of local scholars and conservators.
Your donation helps to enable and equip teams around the world with the tools, expertise and support to rapidly, inexpensively, and safely capture engineering grade data that can be used for everything from reconstruction, to immersive classroom experiences.
Working with governments and international partners we have begun this enormous task in Iraq at the Ziggurat of Ur
, where, in September of this year, a volunteer team captured data from the incredible early bronze-age temple, one of the most recognizable in the region.
This is only the first of hundreds of sites that Project Anqa seeks to capture. To accomplish the monumental task of preserving heritage in the face of destruction it’s going to take a collective effort –time, expertise, and financial resources – to ensure that the stories these heritage sites hold are not lost forever. The loss of these sites is shared by the world, and the responsibility to preserve them and their legacy is shared as well.
In order to move forward we must record the evidence of history before it is lost. We need your help. Please donate to this innovative partnership to help preserve and freely share the rich and endangered heritage of the Middle East before further losses can take place.
