The abstract puts it best when it says, "Although terrestrial 3D laser scanning is being used increasingly for a wide range of applications, no laser scanning system on the market is suitable for all applications." Therefore, in this paper the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences' Department of Geomatics (Hamburg, Germany) has tested the behavioural accuracy of Trimble's Mensi GS100 laser scanner.

The test is important because it has determined some of the variable affecting scanner accuracy, such as object material, color, and smoothness as well as shape (eg, sphere versus flat target).
