A historic village in a precarious position, Civita di Bagnoregio is a living testament to the resilience and resourcefulness of its inhabitants and protectors, and an ongoing chronicle of the region’s natural and cultural history.
The breathtaking town in central Italy is noted for its striking position on top of a plateau of friable volcanic tuff overlooking the Tiber river valley. Nick-named "the dying town", it’s in constant danger of destruction as the edges of the plateau collapse due to erosion.
In September 2022, CyArk, in collaboration with the Comune di Bagnoregio, carried out a digital documentation project at Civita di Bagnoregio. CyArk is interested in highlighting Civita di Bagnoregio because of the deep historical significance and ongoing threats from erosion.
