St Helena Island National Park

St Helena Island is a former penal establishment located in Moreton Bay (Queensland). In operation between 1867 and 1932, its history reflects an early attempt to create a reformative prison in colonial Australia. The prison complex was largely self-sufficient and provided inmates with the opportunity for self-improvement and rehabilitation.
